The use of a Pneumocystis carninii combatting agent is disclosed. The agent is a compound according to Formula (I) (see formula I) wherein: R1 and R2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H or lower alkyl, or R1 and R2 together represent -(CH2)m- wherein m is from two to four; R3 is H or lower alkyl; and X is C1 to C12 linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkyl containing up to four double bonds, with the proviso that X is not -CH=CH-; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. These agents can also be used to combat Giardia lamblia.
