ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of decarburizing ESR slags to reduce carbon pick up in superalloys is provided in which NiO is added to the slag prior to remelting the metallic electrode in amounts sufficient to reduce carbon in the slag to a desired level.
