A method of and a product formed by entrapping a bioactive, growth-promoting additive in a starch matrix to form a starch-based, superabsorbent polymer product for use in agricultural applications involves (1) graft polymerizing a monomer and a starch to form a starch graft copolymer including a starch matrix; (2) isolating the starch graft copolymer; (3) forming particles of starch graft copolymer; and (4) adding a bioactive, growth-promoting additive such that at least some of the bioactive, growth-promoting additive is entrapped by the starch matrix. Following placement of the starch-based SAP including a bioactive, growth-promoting additive in proximity to a plant, root, seed, or seedling, growth of the plant, root, seed, or seedling is promoted because availability of beneficial nutrients is increased.
L'invention concerne une méthode et un produit obtenu par piégeage d'un additif anabolisant bioactif dans une matrice d'amidon en vue de créer un produit polymère superabsorbant à base d'amidon destiné à être utilisé dans des applications agricoles. La méthode consiste à: 1) polymériser avec greffage un monomère et un amidon pour former un copolymère avec greffage d'amidon comprenant une matrice d'amidon; 2) isoler le copolymère avec greffage d'amidon; 3) former des particules de copolymère avec greffage d'amidon; et 4) ajouter un additif anabolisant bioactif de sorte qu'au moins une partie de l'additif anabolisant bioactif soit piégée par la matrice d'amidon. Une fois le SAP à base d'amidon comprenant un additif anabolisant bioactif placé à proximité d'une plante, d'une racine, d'une semence ou d'un semis, la croissance de la plante, de la racine, de la semence ou du semis est stimulée grâce à une disponibilité accrue de nutriants bénéfiques.
