A method of forming an ophthalmic lens suited for extended-wear periods without a clinically significant amount of corneal swelling and without substantial wearer discomfort. The lens has a balance of oxygen permeability and ion or water permeability, with the ion or water permeability being sufficient to provide good on-eye movement, such that a good tear exchange occurs between the lens and the eye. The manufacturing method requires the oxygen concentration of the polymerizable material to be low enough to produce a lens having a high ion permeability. A preferred oxygen concentration in the polymerizable material is a concentration below 200 ppm.
Procédé de formation d'une lentille ophtalmique adaptée à des durées d'utilisation prolongées sans provoquer de gonflement cliniquement significatif de la cornée et sans provoquer de gène à l'utilisateur. La lentille présente un équilibre de perméabilité à l'oxygène et de perméabilité ionique ou aqueuse, la perméabilité ionique ou aqueuse étant suffisante pour avoir de bonnes caractéristiques de mouvement sur l'oeil, de manière à obtenir un bon échange lacrimal entre la lentille et l'oeil. Le procédé de production nécessite une concentration d'oxygène de la matière polymérisable suffisamment basse pour produire une lentille présentant une haute perméabilité ionique. La concentration d'oxygène préférée dans la matière polymérisable est inférieure à 200 ppm.
