A method of preparing phakic intraocular lenses from hydropho-bic materials is described. In this process, the lens is tested to determine whether it can float submerged in an aqueous medium. If it cannot (e.g., if it remains on top of the aqueous medium), the lens is surface treated (for example, by vacuum UV or corona discharge processes) to increase its wetting ability (e.g., to reduce it hydrophobicity). The lenses prepared by this process are also described.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de lentilles intraoculaires phakiques à partir de matériaux hydrophobes. Dans ce processus, la lentille est testée de façon à déterminer si elle peut flotter lorsqu'elle est immergée dans un milieu aqueux. Si ça n'est pas le cas (par exemple, si elle reste en haut du milieu aqueux), cette lentille subit un traitement de surface (par exemple par processus ultraviolet extrême ou par décharge coronaire) de façon à accroître sa capacité de mouillage (par exemple, pour réduire sa capacité hydrophobe).
