Methods and devices for synthesizing ferrate and uses thereof are described. One aspect is a method for continuously synthesizing ferrate comprising: continuously providing an aqueous solution comprising an iron salt in a reaction chamber, where the reaction chamber comprises at least two electrodes; providing sufficient electric current to the at least two electrodes to convert at least a portion of the iron salt to ferrate; delivering at least a portion of the ferrate to a site of use that is proximal to the reaction chamber; and adding additional aqueous solution to the reaction chamber. Another aspect is a device comprising: a reaction chamber comprising two electrodes and a solution of an iron salt, where the electrodes provide sufficient electric current to convert the solution of an iron salt to a solution of ferrate; a holding chamber controllably connected to the reaction chamber, into which the solution of ferrate is kept for a period of time; and an output opening in the holding chamber through which the mixture is adapted to be transported to a site of use, wherein the site of use is proximal to the holding chamber.

Un aspect de l'invention est une méthode permettant la synthèse en continu de ferrate, et comportant les étapes suivantes : alimenter en continu une chambre de réaction en une solution aqueuse renfermant un sel de fer, la chambre de réaction comportant au moins deux électrodes; fournir un courant électrique suffisant aux électrodes (deux ou plus) pour convertir au moins une partie du sel de fer en ferrate; acheminer au moins une portion du ferrate à un site d'utilisation proche de la chambre de réaction; réapprovisionner la chambre de réaction en solution aqueuse. Un autre aspect de l'invention est un dispositif comportant une chambre de réaction qui renferme deux électrodes et une solution de sel de fer, où les électrodes fournissent un courant électrique suffisant pour convertir la solution de sel de fer en ferrate; une chambre de rétention reliée à la chambre de réaction, ce lien pouvant être régulé, dans laquelle la solution de ferrate est conservée pendant un certain temps; une sortie de la chambre de rétention, par laquelle la solution est préparée à être transportée au site d'utilisation, le site d'utilisation étant proche de la chambre de rétention.
