Methods to test and rank substances for their abilities to affect G protein- coupled receptor activity. Specifically, these methods include testing the ability of the antagonist to increase spontaneous G protein-coupled receptor activity and to sensitive G protein-coupled receptors to agonists are described. These methods will be useful in the pharmaceutical industry for screening new drugs for their abilities to interact with G protein-coupled receptors. Reagents necessary to use this method can be supplied as part of a test kit.
