B/1089 METHYL CHLOROFORMATE PROCESS Abstract of The Disclosure A continuous process for producing high-purity methyl chloroformate, by reacting liquid methanol with an excess of phosgene at no more than 20°C., preferably about 15°C. Phosgene is absorbed in a large circulating load of pre-formed chloro- formate that has also had methanol added to it. The product stream is treated to remove light ends, and a 98% pure product results.
