Material is deposited onto a surface, such as a tooth or a bone, to repair or restore the surface. The Material is delivered in powdered form and melted by application of a laser. The molten material is entrained in a high velocity fluid stream, typically a gas such as air, and directed to the surface to be treated. The molten material solidifies. The materials include hydroxyapatite, alumina and silicon dioxide. The laser may be directed with an optic fibre for selective melting on the surface.
