ABSTRACT The invention is concerned with a bubble generator for producing a mixture of surfactant-stabilized spherical bubbles of gas having a narrowly distributed size and dispersed in a hydrogen-bonded liquid. The bubble generator of the invention comprises a feeder for providing a flowing stream comprising a two phase mixture of the gas and a solution containing a stabilizing amount of the surfactant in the hydrogen-bonded liquid, and a micro-vortex forming and shedding device comprising a plurality of rods arranged in the flow path of the stream and disposed transversely to the direction of flow for imparting to the stream a rotating laminar flow so as to form in the hydrogen-bonded liquid a plurality of micro-vortices which centrifugally entrap the gas therein and break into surfactant-stabilized spherical bubbles of a narrowly distributed size, the rods being adapted to provide a Reynolds number in the range of from about 500 to about 5,000. This bubble generator is useful in the production of a composition for the direct nucleation of contaminants contained in a hydrogen-bonded liquid.
