It discloses the expression of host~s disease-associated genes and their use in assays for diagnosis and assessment of animal with herpes virus infection. This invention allows monitoring of an infected animal~s immune response and thus enables better treatment and management decisions to be made in clinical and sub- clinically affected animals.
