ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to the novel enzyme D-2- hydroxy-4-methyl pentanoic acid dehydrogenase and its production frcm various micro-organisms available at the Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen in Gottingen. The novel enzyme can be used for the enzymatic conversion of D-2-hydroxy-4-methyl pentanoic acid and of various other D-2-hydroxy carboxylic acids into the corresponding 2-ketocarboxylic acids and of that of 2-keto-4- methyl pentanoic acid and various other 2-ketocarboxylic acids into the corresponding D-2-hydroxy carboxylic acids.
