Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to a cell culture microcarrier, which comprises a water-insoluble polymeric carrier being substituted with quarteenary amino groups. According to the invention the quarternary amino groups have the formula: Image where Z is a possibly substituted hydrocarbon chain and having at least two carbon atoms; R1, R2 and R3, which may be identical or different, may be lower alkyl groups of 1 - 5 carbon atoms or lower hydroxy alkyl groups of 2 - 5 carbon atoms and 1 - 2 hydroxyl groups. Moreover at most one of R1 - R3 may be an alkyl group of 1 - 20 carbon atoms. In the hydroxyalkyl groups at most one atom other than carbon and hydrogen may be bound to one and the same carbon atom.
