A suspension of microfabricated particles, or microdevices, for use in diagnostic applications is disclosed. The microdevices have a selected shape, and uniform dimensions preferably in the 100 nm to 10 µm range. The microdevices can be designed for intravenous or intraoperative administration. Also disclosed are microfabrication methods for making such microdevices.
