Microfabricated therapeutic actuators are fabricated using a shape memory polymer (SMP), a polyurethane based material that undergoes a phase transformation at a specified temperature (Tg). At a temperature above temperature Tg material is soft and can be easily reshaped into another configuration. As the temperature is lowered below temperature Tg the new shape is fixed and locked in as along as the material stays below temperature Tg. Upon reheating the material to a temperature above Tg, the material will return to its original shape. By the use of such SMP material, SMP micro- tubing can be used as a release actuator for the delivery of embolic coils (11) through catheters (10) into aneurysms, for example. The micro-tubing (10) can be manufactured in various sizes and the phase change temperature Tg is determinate for an intended temperature target and intended use.
Cette invention se rapporte à des actionneurs thérapeutiques micro-usinés, fabriqués à partir d'un polymère à mémoire de forme (SMPshape memory polymer), un polyuréthanne qui subit une transformation de phase à une température donnée (Tg). A des températures supérieures à cette température Tg, la matière est souple et on peut facilement lui donner une autre forme. Lorsque la température décroît en dessous de la température Tg, la nouvelle forme est fixée et bloquée tant que la température reste inférieure à la température Tg. Puis si l'on chauffe ladite matière jusqu'à une température supérieure à Tg, la matière reprend sa forme d'origine. L'utilisation de cette matière SMP pour la fabrication d'un micro-tube permet d'utiliser ce dernier en tant qu'actionneur de libération pour l'introduction de serpentins (11) anti-embolie à l'intérieur d'anévrismes, par l'intermédiaire de cathéters (10). Le micro-tube (10) peut être fabriqué suivant diverses dimensions et la température de changement de phase Tg est définie en fonction d'une cible de température particulière et d'une utilisation particulière.
