A micromirror has at least one mirror segment tiltable about a tilt axis that is asymmetrically disposed relative to said mirror segment. This arrangement allows the said mirror segment to tilt farther in one sense of rotation than another. The mirror segment tiltable can also have a series of raised facets on an active surface thereof for deflecting an incident light beam when the mirror segment is in a light deflecting attitude.
