A microporous thermal insulation material is formed from an intimate mixture of a dry particulate microporous material and reinforcing glass filaments. The glass constituting the glass filaments contains not more than 1 per cent by weight Na2O and preferably has the following composition: SiO2 at least 50% by weight Al2O3 14% to 25% by weight B2O3 up to 8 by weight MgO up to 10% by weight CaO up to 21% by weight Na2O up to 1% by weight K2O up to 2% by weight Fe2O3 up to 1% by weight F2 up to 1% by weight.
