-12- ABSTRACT Described is a measuring apparatus for the noninvasive de- termination of periheral outflow and flow disturbances in the extremities of human beings, having at least one light transmitter and one light receiver as well as an evaluation and read out circuit to ascertain the temporal course of blood outflow or inflow in the veins by measur- ing the changes in light reflection. The invented apparatus distinguishes itself in that the evaluation and read out circuit calibrates itself prior to measuring, in that it raises the current flowing through the light transmitter or transmitters until the signal-to- noise interval of the receiver has attained a specific value.
