A system (100) and method for operating a dual electrode flashlamp (102). The method employs steps of applying an electrical potential between a pair of electrodes (114, 116) of the dual electrode flashlamp; and irradiating a region behind one of said electrodes with microwave energy (108). The system (100) has a flashlamp bulb (102); a first electrode positioned at one end of the flashlamp bulb; a second electrode positioned at another end of the flashlamp bulb; and a microwave energy source (106) positioned to direct microwave energy (108) at the flashlamp bulb (102).

L'invention porte sur un système (100) et sur un procédé de fonctionnement d'une lampe éclair (102) à double électrode. Ce procédé consiste à appliquer un potentiel électrique entre une paire d'électrodes (114, 116) de la lampe éclair; et à irradier une région se trouvant derrière une des électrodes par énergie micro-onde (108). Le système (100) comprend une ampoule (102) de lampe éclair; une première électrode placée à une extrémité de l'ampoule; une seconde électrode placée à une autre extrémité de l'ampoule; et une source (106) d'énergie micro-onde placée de façon à diriger l'énergie (108) micro-onde au niveau de l'ampoule (102) de la lampe éclair.
