ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for heat-setting a radially compressed tampon and the tampon formed by such process. A prehumidified tampon is compressed and inserted in an open ended microwave transparent tube having openings along the longitudinal axis of the tube. The tampon is subjected to microwave heating, and it is then dried. The process provides for rapid and uniform heat-setting of a tampon containing fibrous absorbent as well as a readily compressed tampon having certain unique characteristics.
