A method for operating a magnetron powered microwave oven, said method comprising the steps of: (a) detecting data relative to a food from a sensor; (b) subtracting data relative to characteristics of the microwave oven, which are prestored in the microwave oven, from the detected data to obtain modified detected data; and (c) controlling the output power of the magnetron by utilizing the modified detected data to determine a type and a status of the food.
