A method and apparatus is disclosed for the sterilization of flowable solids using a microwave treatment unit. The flowable solids might be from a waste treatment system or the like and might either be dry flowable solids or might alternatively be fluid born which would also yield them flowable through the device. The application of microwave treatment for a period of time sterilizes the solids. The method and apparatus might also be further modified to include apparatus and process for the removal of water or other fluid from a fluid born solid in advance of sterilization. The apparatus of the present invention might be attached directly to a pressurized waste water treatment system. Sterilized solids are released from the unit for removal and disposal.
