A relatively low molecular weight, mid-range vinylidene content PIB polymer product and a process for making the same. At least about 90 % of the PIB molecules present in the product comprise alpha or beta position isomers. The vinylidene (alpha) isomer content of the product may range from 20 % to 70 % thereof and the content of tetra-substituted internal double bonds is very low, preferably less than about 5 % and ideally less than about 1-2 %. The mid- range vinylidene content PIB polymer products are prepared by a liquid phase polymerization process conducted in a loop reactor (10, 100) at a temperature of at least 60 ~F using a BF3/methanol catalyst complex and a contact time of no more than 4 minutes.
L'invention concerne un produit polymère de PIB à teneur moyenne de vinylidène et de poids moléculaire relativement bas, ainsi qu'un procédé de préparation de ce produit. Au moins environ 90 % des molécules de PIB présentes dans le produit renferment des isomères de position alpha ou bêta. La teneur d'(alpha) isomère de vinylidène du produit peut être comprise entre 20 % et 70 % de celui-ci et la teneur en doubles liaisons internes têtra-substituées est très faible, de préférence inférieure à environ 5 % et idéalement inférieure à environ 1-2 %. Les produits polymères de PIB à teneur moyenne de vinylidène sont préparés par polymérisation en phase liquide effectuée dans un réacteur à boucle (10, 100) à une température d'au moins 60 ·F, au moyen d'un complexe catalyseur BF¿3?/méthanol et pendant un temps de contact inférieur à 4 minutes.
