In a system for automatic identification, a method performed by an appliance coupled to a network balances load among appliances. The network includes a plurality of tags, a plurality of readers that read the tags, and a plurality of appliances. The appliances service the readers to provide information for a server, also coupled to the network. The server performs an application program in accordance with the information. The method includes in any order: (a) determining an unallocated capacity for service by the appliance; (b) determining a load for servicing a reader of the plurality; and (c) if the load fits within the unallocated capacity, providing a signal to the network for another appliance of the plurality, the signal for indicating that the appliance can service the reader. Another method performed by an appliance includes in any order: (a) determining a figure of merit of communication between tags and readers; (b) sending information for a reader to adjust communication with the tags in accordance with the information.
La présente invention a trait à un système pour l'identification automatique dans lequel un procédé réalisé par un dispositif relié à un réseau assure l'équilibre entre les appareils. Le réseau comporte une pluralité d'étiquettes, une pluralité de lecteurs pour la lecture des étiquettes, et une pluralité de dispositifs. Les dispositifs entretiennent les lecteurs pour la fourniture d'information pour un serveur, également relié au réseau. Le serveur exécute un programme d'application selon l'information. Le procédé comprend dans une séquence quelconque: (a) la détermination d'une capacité non allouée pour l'entretien par le dispositif; (b) la détermination d'une charge pour l'entretien d'un lecteur parmi l'ensemble; et (c) si la charge correspond à la capacité non allouée, la fourniture d'un signal au réseau pour un autre dispositif de l'ensemble, le signal indiquant que le dispositif est apte à l'entretien du lecteur. Un autre procédé réalisé par le dispositif comprend dans une séquence quelconque: (a) la détermination d'un facteur de qualité de communication entre les étiquettes et les lecteurs; (b) la transmission d'information à un lecteur pour le réglage de communication avec les étiquettes selon l'information.
