2090233 9204882 PCTABS00011 The present invention relates to mild shampoo compositions, which are non-irritating to the scalp, and which can be formulated so that they do not cause stinging if exposed to the eyes. These shampoos provide excellent cleaning, lathering and cosmetic in-use properties, comparable to conventional shampoos. These compositions comprise an anionic surfactant, a combination of two amphoteric surfactants; the first being selected from certain imidazolinium derivatives, and the second being selected from aminoalkanoates and/or iminodialkanoates; and optionally, a nonionic surfactant, to provide eye sting reduction benefits. The total level of anionic and amphoteric surfactants in these compositions is from about 5 % to about 20 %. The molar ratio of anionic to total amphoteric surfactant is from about 0.5:1 to about 2:1. Preferred compositions of the present invention also contain a dispersed, insoluble, non-volatile silicone conditioning agent.
