An indexable cutting insert (10) for use in a milling cutter (50). The cutting insert (10) having four identical side surfaces (16) extending between generally square shaped top (12) and bottom surfaces (14) with two diametrically opposite protuberances (28) extending away from each other in a top or bottom view of the cutting insert (10). The cutting insert (10) has eight identical major (30) and minor cutting edges (32). The milling cutter (50) having the general form of a circular disk (52) with a plurality of the cutting inserts (10) releasably mounted in insert pockets (54) angularly around the periphery (58) of the cutter. The cutting inserts (10) are arranged to produce a profile (60) on a workpiece (62) having a central straight section (60) and two beveled sections (60', 60'') on either side of the central straight section (60).
La présente invention concerne une plaquette amovible indexable (10) destinée à être utilisée dans une fraise (50). La plaquette amovible (10) comporte quatre surfaces latérales identiques (16) qui s'étendent entre des surfaces supérieure (12) et inférieure (14) de forme globalement carrée comprenant deux protubérances (28) diamétralement opposées s'étendant à distance l'une de l'autre en vue de dessus ou de dessous de la plaquette amovible (10). La plaquette amovible (10) comporte huit bords coupants identiques principaux (30) et huit bords coupants identiques secondaires (32). La fraise (50) se présente globalement sous la forme d'un disque circulaire (52) comportant une pluralité de plaquettes amovibles (10) montées de manière libérable et angulaire dans des logements correspondants (54) sur le pourtour (58) de la fraise. Les plaquettes amovibles (10) sont prévues pour former un profil (60) sur un élément à travailler (62), ce profil présentant une partie droite centrale (60) et deux parties biseautées (60', 60'') situées de chaque côté de la partie droite centrale (60).
