ABSTRACT A MILLING MACHINE Disclosed herein is a milling machine comprising a base including a work surface: a gantry section suspended above the work surface for movement along the work surface in the direction of an 'x' axis; a tool head assembly attached to the gantry section above the work surface for movement across the work surface in the direction of a 'y' axis; the tool head assembly including displacement means to displace a tool in the direction of a 'z' axis; first motor means for displacing the gantry section along the work surface and second motor means for displacing the tool head assembly across the work surface, each of the first and second motor means including a robot motor having sufficient torque to displace the gantry section and the tool head assembly respectively without the need of a gearbox and the accompanying back lash thereof.
