ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of improving the photoconductive properties of unmilled trigonal selenium which comprises first providing a source of particulate trigonal selenium having an average particle size usually greater than about one micron. The particulate trigonal selenium is then milled, whereby the selenium particles exhibit improved xerographic properties. The milled trigonal selenium may be used to make an imaging structure by applying to a conductive substrate an overcoat- ing of a photogenerating layer comprising the milled trigonal selenium particles preferably having an average particle size in the range of from 0.05 to 0.5 microns, the overcoating having a thickness ranging from 0.5 to 6 microns, and an active transparent overlayer comprising an electrically active material selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl carbozole, polyvinyl pyrene, PVK and PVP with TNF blended with a polymer, the active transparent layer being applied in a thickness in the range of from 5 to 100 microns on the surface of the imaging structure.
