-7- Abstract of the Disclosure: A mine convergence monitor comprises an optical head mounted at a fixed point on a mine wall, a target reflector attached to a wall facing the optical head and adapted to reflect a light beam lanched from the optical head towards the target reflector, an optical time domain reflectometer for measuring the time taken by the light beam to return to the optical head, and means for deriving the distance between the optical head and the reflector from such time and for deriving convergence by substracting such distance from a previously derived distance.
