ABSTRACT This invention relates to a mine prop which includes an elongated timber pole, a cylindrical sleeve of reinforcing material which extends over a portion of the length of the pole from at or near its one end and bearing means at the sleeved end of the prop which has an external load bearing surface area which is significantly less than the cross-sectional area of the sleeve.
