Abstract of the Disclosure Mineralized leads are obtained by insulating one or more electrical conductors, preferably metallic conductors, with silicic acid staple fibres and by sheathing the whole with a metallic casing; the silicic acid staple fibers used are fibres which have been produced by treating dry spun sodium silicate (sodium water glass) fibres, which are free from non-alkaline metal compounds and have an Na2O : SiO2 molar ratio of about 1 : 3 to 1 : 1.9, with an aqueous hydrogen ion- containing acid or salt solution, and by washing and drying with, if necessary, a thermal after-treatment, it is also desirable to use a bonding agent, more particularly one low in alkali or free from alkali, such as silica sol, boron trioxide, organosilanes and the like, such mineral insulated leads are noted for low electrical capacity, low dielectric losses and high electrical resistance, they may be used within a very broad temperature range, and they are particularly suitable for measuring lines, thermocouples and heating conductors.
