An optical scanning system for scanning a light beam from a source of light comprises a multiplying mirror for reflecting a light beam and a first optical scanning mirror for reflecting a light beam from the source. The first scanning mirror oscillates about an axis of rotation through a mechanical first scan angle to provide a first optical scan angle and the multiplying mirror is positioned relative to the first optical scanning mirror to reflect the reflected light beam from the source back onto the first scanning mirror such that the light beam is reflected by the first scanning mirror a multiple number of times before being output from the scanning system to cause the first scanning mirror to scan the light beam through an output scan angle that is greater than the first optical scan angle by a factor that is equal to the multiple number of times.
