A sensor device (10) is provided for measuring the speed of a moving sports object, for example a ball (16) such as a baseball or softball. The sensor is operable over a short range and is preferably mounted in close proximity to the path of the moving object. For measuring the speed of a ball, the sensor is preferably mounted on or in a ball glove (14) or is otherwise mounted on the forearm (11) of a person catching or otherwise receiving or interacting with the ball, for example, by wearing the sensor on such person's wrist (13). The sensor measures the speed of a ball about to be caught, for exemple, and displays the speed of the ball on a display (22) to the catching player. The sensor of the preferred embodiment utilizes CW Doppler radar in the form of a microwave radio frequency transmitter and receiver (33) that has a single- transistor integrated antenna/oscillator (50). A simple, battery powered low cost unit having a low radiation and low energy consumption transmitter, receiver and signal processor, is provided.
L'invention concerne un dispositif de détection (10) permettant de mesurer la vitesse d'un objet de sport mobile, comme par exemple une balle (16) telle qu'une balle de base-ball ou de softball. Le détecteur peut fonctionner dans un court rayon d'action et est de préférence monté à proximité de la trajectoire de l'objet mobile. Pour mesurer la vitesse d'une balle, le détecteur est de préférence monté au-dessus ou à l'intérieur d'un gant de base-ball (14) ou alors, il est placé à l'avant-bras (11) d'une personne attrapant ou recevant la balle, ou en contact avec elle, et qui, par exemple porte le détecteur au poignet (13). Le détecteur mesure la vitesse d'une balle sur le point d'être attrapée, par exemple, et affiche la vitesse de la balle sur un écran (22) à l'intention du joueur qui attrape la balle. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, le détecteur fait appel à un radar Doppler à ondes entretenues sous la forme d'un émetteur-récepteur (33) radiofréquence à ondes ultracourtes, possédant une antenne/oscillateur (50) intégrée à transistor unique. L'invention concerne donc une unité de faible coût, simple et alimentée par batterie, possédant un émetteur, un récepteur, et un processeur de signaux à faible rayonnement et à faible consommation d'énergie.
