ABSTRACT The invention concerns the laying of dust during the extraction of minerals by means of cutting drums during mining, preferably during underground coal-mining. The liquid sprayed from nozzles on the drum is wholly or partly drawn back into the cutting drum, is mixed with fresh spraying liquid, and is used again for spraying. This produces a curtain of spray which circulates closely around the cutting drum. Selecting the negative pressure obtaining makes it possible to vary the spread of the curtain of spray within certain limits. An advantageous cutting drum is disclosed whereby the spray ejected towards the working face is drawn back into the discharge end of the cutting drum, and at the surface thereof, for example in the vicinity of the helical vanes.
