Abstract of the Disclosure The invention refers to a cutter unit for a coal mining machine. Known mining units have a cylindrical profile defined by a cap plate and panels helically wound on a base cylinder. The outer edges of the plate and the panels are provided with cutter holders. The unit disclosed in this application has helical panels and a cap plate mounted on a cylinder. The outer periphery of each panel projects beyond the rear end plane of the cylinder. The cylinder overlaps with the body a part of the drive head for the cutter unit. The element that mounts the unit on its drive shaft is situated inside the cylinder so that it partly overlaps the axial extent of the cap plate. Due to this design, the rear edge of the unit is close to the conveyor on which the machine advan- ces. The winnings are more effectively transported in the direction of the conveyor.
