Spinning Wheels have many common features, namely, a large diameter drive wheel, made to rotate by a treadle (or treadles), and turning a smaller pulley ('whorl') by means of a belt or drive band. This small pulley is attached to what is called a 'flyer' in an assembly named 'mother of all'. The flyer winds the spun thread on a bobbin in this assembly. As different materials i.e. wool, cotton, silk etc. require various amounts of twist or turns per inch to create stable yarns, the ratio from the large diameter drive wheel to the small pulley on the flyer has to change. This invention allows this speed change to be made more efficiently and easily than other methods on the market.
