A method is disclosed for mitigating fouling and reducing viscosity in primary fractionators and quench sections of ethylene plants by adding to a hydrocarbon stream a mono and/or a polyalkyl-substituted phenol-formaldehyde resin having a weight average molecular weight of from about 1,000 to about 30,000 and at least one alkyl substituent containing from about 4 to about 24 carbon atoms, which alkyl substituent may be linear or branched.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé servant à atténuer le phénomène d'encrassement dit fouling et à réduire la viscosité dans des fractionnateurs primaires et dans les sections de trempage d'installations de production d'éthylène, ce procédé consistant à ajouter à un flux d'hydrocarbures une résine de phénol-formaldéhyde à substitution monoalkyle et/ou polyalkyle, ayant un poids moléculaire moyen pondéral compris entre 1000 environ et 30000 environ, et au moins un substituant alkyle contenant environ 4 à environ 24 atomes de carbone, ce substituant alkyle pouvant être linéaire ou ramifié.
