MITOMYCIN C DERIVATIVES Abstract: The present invention provides new derivatives of mitomycin C, represented by the formula: Image [I] wherein R represents a hydroxy group [designated as 7-N-(p- hydroxyphenyl)-mytomycin C] or an amino group [designated as 7-N-(p-aminophenyl)-mitomycin C]. The new compounds are produced by reacting mitomycin A of the formula: Image [II] with P-aminophenyl or p-phenylenediamine. The new compounds exhibit good antitumor and antibacterial activities and are expected to be useful as antitumor agents. The present in- vention further provides pharmaceutical compositions compris- ing as active ingredient at least one compound of the formula [I] as hereinbefore defined. -1-
