Mixed alcohol formulas can be used as a fuel additive in gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aviation gasoline, heating oil, bunker oil, coal, petroleum coke or as a neat fuel in and of itself. The mixed alcohols formulations can contain Cl-C5 alcohols, or in the alternative, C1-C8 alcohols or higher C1-Clo alcohols in order to boost energy content. The C1-C5 mixed alcohols contain more ethanol than methanol with declining amounts of propanol, butanol and pentanol. C1-C8 mixed alcohols contain the same, with declining amounts of hexanol, heptanol and octanol. C1-C10 mixed alcohols contain the same, with declining amounts of nananol and decanol. Synthetically produced mixed alcohol formulas feature higher octane and energy densities than either MTBE or fermented grain ethanol; more stable Reid Vapor Pressure blending characteristics; and increased soluablizing effects on condensate water. The primary benefits of mixed alcohols are increased combustion efficiencies, reduced emissions profiles and low production costs.

Les formulations d'alcools mixtes de l'invention peuvent contenir des alcools Cl-C5 ou, dans un autre mode de réalisation, des alcools C1-C8 ou des alcools C1-Cl0 supérieurs afin d'augmenter la teneur en énergie. Les alcools mixtes C1-C5 contiennent plus d'éthanol que de méthanol, avec des quantités qui vont en diminuant de propanol, butanol et pentanol.Les alcools mixtes C1-C8 contiennent les mêmes éléments, avec des quantités qui vont en diminuant d'hexanol, d'heptanol et d'octanol. Les alcools mixtes C1-C10 contiennent les mêmes éléments, avec des quantités qui vont en diminuant de nananol et de décanol. Les formules d'alcool mixtes synthétiques possèdent un nombre d'octanes et une densité en énergie supérieurs au MTBE ou à l'éthanol à base de grains fermentés, des caractéristiques de mélange à la pression de vapeur Reid plus stables, et des effets de solubilisation augmentés sur l'eau condensée. Les alcools mixtes présentent comme avantages principaux une efficacité de combustion augmentée, des profils d'émissions réduits et de faibles coûts de production.
