Abstract of the Invention A subsurface froth generator with radial flow enhancers and surface skimmers comprises a shaft positioned concentrically in a draft tube. An impeller on the shaft serves to pull gas and water into a submerged mixing zone. A propeller on the lower end of the impeller shaft is rotated in the bottom of a still-well, below the draft tube, for pulling liquid upwardly toward the impeller. A perforated shroud, having vanes on the top surface, arranged at the bottom of the draft tube is in substantially uninterrupted fluid communication with the impeller so that an upwardly circulating pattern of air bubbles entrained in the liquid by rotation of the impeller impinges directly on the undersurface of the shroud. A circulation pattern of entrained air bubbles passing upwardly through the holes in the shroud and directed substantially radially upwardly and outwardly is produced. The mixing unit generates a quiescent (non-turbulent) surface flow of foam which continuously moves in a radial direction toward skimmers. The flow pattern reduces the possibility of re- entrainment of floated material or stagnation or dissolution of the entrained air bubbles.
