The whirling gas flow is guided through a converging passage (4) and, during or after being charged with the substance, abruptly widens in cylindrical space (11), as a result of which vortex break down occurs and an exceptionally thorough mixing and/or atomizing of the substance is obtained. Application in a burner improves the combustion result, keeps the NOX-values low and prevents the flame from being blown off.
