A mixing machine (10) comprising a housing (20) having an upper portion (24) and a lower portion (26), an attachment drive head (30) extending downwardly from the upper portion (24) of the housing (20), an attachment drive including an attachment drive shaft (150), the shaft (150) being capable of driving a detachable mixing attachment, an adjustable drive train (100) linked to the attachment drive for driving the attachment drive shaft (150), a motor (102) mounted in the housing (20) for driving the drive train (100), a shift lever assembly (200) including a shift lever (240) wherein movement of the shift lever (240) adjusts the length of the adjustable drive train (100) and thereby changes the speed of the attachment drive, and a mechanism (230) mounted on the housing (20) to prevent the shift lever (240) from vibrating out of position during a mixing operation and to prevent a change in speed of the mixing machine.
