ABSTRACT The invention is directed to a mixture of acetylpolyalkylindanes and acetylpolyalkyl-tetralines obtainable by cycloalkylation of ?-cymene and/or ?, .alpha.- dimethylstyrene and/or 8-?-cymenyl halides and/or 8-?-cymenyl alcohol with a mixture of alkenes consisting of one or more methylbutene isomers and one or more dimethylbutene isomers, followed by acetylation of the intermediate mixture of polyalkylindanes and polyalkyltetralines.
