INVENTORS: Christopher Leon OGLE Ann Louise LAND TITLE: MOBILE CHAIR AND SEAT FORM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mobile chair is disclosed which utilises a narrow backbone frame structure having an upper portion 11 and a bifurcated lower portion 12 interconnected by an articulated hinge arrangement 14. The angle formed between the upper and lower portions may be maintained at the desired angle by a clamp member 13 connected to an offset axis of the hinge arrangement 14 and bolted to the upper portion 11. The frame comprises a seat support member 15 extending from and releasably attached to the hinge arrangement 14 at one end. The other end is supported by a front member 16 which is connected to the front wheel(s) 17. The rear wheels 19 are connected to the lower portion 12 by wheel mounts 18 which may be rotated to raise or lower the height of the lower portion 12 to cause a variation of the orientation of the seat fitted to the frame. Thus the orientation of the seat may be varied as well as allowing the back of the seat to be reclined. The seat and footrest may be connected to the frame by adjustable mounting blocks 45. Advantageously, the frame is fitted with a seat formed from an extendable seat form to form the mobile chair. The seat form, the internal structure of a seat to which the seat owes its shape and to which padding is applied may be of two basic configurations. The first configuration of the seat form 60 ...2/ 5984S/liz -1- -2- has a integrally formed back portion 61 and base portion 62. The length of the portions can be extended by the addition of extension segments 91 and 92. The other configuration of the seat form 60 comprises two separate portions 61 and 62 interconnected by a plurality of multileaved hinges 63 to allow the angle between the back portion 61 and the base portion 62 to be varied. The extension segments are secured to the previous extension segment or to the basic portion by two segment bolts 68 which have a threaded shaft 70 and a slotted head 69 with a threaded bore 71. The bolts engage a threaded bore 67 in the base or back portions or the threaded bore 71 of the previous extension segment bolt 68. A pommel 81 is releasably connected to the base portion 62 to improve abduction. FIGURE 1 and FIGURE 2 5984S/liz -2-
