ABSTRACT A fixed unit for a mobile communications system includes a transmitter and a receiver section connected to a public telephone line by a subscriber line. A first tuner is provided for selectively tuning the transmitter section to one of several radio channels for communication and a stand-by channel the frequency of which is not used for communication in the system. A second tuner is provided for selectively tuning the receiver section to one of the radio channels for communication. A controller section is provided for, when the fixed unit is in a stand-by condition, controlling the first tuner such that the transmitter section is tuned to the stand-by channel. The invention overcomes the problem of electromagnetic wave leakage prevalent in prior art systems.
