Systems and methods for locating a remote station (14) within an area of a wireless communications network without using a global positioning system. Communications are established between a remote station (14) and a plurality of base stations (12) using separate time slots within at least one over-the- air loop. Propagation delay times associated with signals transmitted or received within the time slots are determined, and one or more possible locations of the remote station (14) are identified based upon the determined propagation delay times.

L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés permettant de localiser une station à distance (14) dans une zone d'un réseau de communications sans fil, sans utiliser un système de positionnement global. On établit la communication entre une station à distance (RS)(14) et plusieurs stations de base (BS)(12), au moyen de créneaux temporels distincts, à l'intérieur d'au moins une boucle radioélectrique. On détermine le temps de propagation associé aux signaux transmis ou reçus à l'intérieur de ces créneaux temporels, et on identifie un ou plusieurs emplacements possibles de ladite station à distance (14), sur la base des temps de propagation ainsi déterminés.
