In a mobile telephone having a telephone handset provided with an internal battery and activating a communication signal when it is operating for communication, a battery charging circuit is inserted between a power supply terminal connected to a vehicle battery and the battery. A charging prohibiting circuit prohibits the charging by the battery charging circuit when the communication signal is active. In an alternative configuration, the battery charging circuit comprises a switching element connected between the power supply terminal and the battery and a charging control circuit turns off the switching element to disable the charging when said communication signal is active. With the above arrangement, the thermal influence and influence due to noise from battery charging circuit to the telephone handset can be eliminated.
