ABSTRACT: This invention relates to the design and construction of a weighing device to mount on mobile vehicles which have lifting means, like fork lift trucks equipped with front forks. In ess- ence we provide a new fork or lifting lug assembly incorporating commercial load cells. The cantilevered fork loading moment is accommodated by upper and lower shear plateswhich are anchored to preloaded spring package supports. An overload will allow the springs to deflect and the excess load to be shunted to stops. The load cell also incorporates a preloaded spring mount and also shunts excess loading to a stop. The use of preloaded spring mounts allows a relatively large movement (about 1/8 in.) before the stops are engaged this results in stops being insensitive to slight deformation and corrosion, debris, etc. accumulation. A single fork is ideal for dosing (adding or subtracting liquids by weight) operations with the 2 normal forks at each side as safety aids. The system can built into virtually any specialty veh- icle handling containers as the weighing assembly can be simply shaft mounted.
