ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Leaded brasses are modified by additions of chromium, antimony and bismuth in order to reduce the susceptibility of the brasses to edge cracking during hot working. The additional alloying elements also help to maintain the widely known good machinability characteristics of the leaded brasses. The alloy includes: 10 to 40% by weight zinc, 0.1 to 5% by weight lead, 0.03 to 0.75% by weight chromium, 0.005 to 0.05% by weight antimony, 0.005 to 0.05% by weight bismuth, balance copper.
