TITLE MODIFICATION OF POLYGLYCOLIC ACID TO ACHIEVE VARIABLE IN-VIVO PHYSICAL PROPERTIES ABSTRACT A mixture is described having up to about 50% by weight of an inert filler and a polymer. The polymer is subject to hydrolytic degradation into non- -toxic, tissue-compatible absorbable components. The polymer has a glycolic acid ester linkage. The mixture is useful in the manufacture of a surgical article or element. A method is also described for achieving variable in-vivo physical properties of a polymer. The polymer is subject to hydrolytic degradation into non-toxic, tissue- -compatible absorbable components. The polymer has a glycolic acid ester linkage. A method is also described for achieving variable in-vivo physical properties of a mixture. The mixture has up to about 50% by weight of an inert filler and the above polymer. The method comprises subjecting the polymer or the mixture to hydrolytic treatment and recovering the modified polymer or mixture. The mod- ified polymer or mixture is useful in the manufacture of a surgical article or element.
